The community is rallying behind the family of a Windsor teen who lost his four-year battle with cancer.
Kaleb Houle,13, passed away early Saturday, November 10 from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
He was diagnosed in 2014 and the cancer returned three times before his death.
On Tuesday, LiUNA 625 presented his family with a cheque for $50,000, the majority raised by members and those in the community to help ease the financial burden.
Assistant Business Manager Bill Moreland says when members heard about Kaleb's story, they wanted to help.
"Our members have always felt that we have to give back to the community and when you see a heartbreaking story like this, you have to feel for the family," says Moreland. "And that's one of the things LiUNA 625 has always done. We get behind families, we get behind local charities, we want to help."
Moreland hopes this helps the family as the financial burden is still there.
"This might ease things a little bit for them and they can breathe a little bit and grieve properly without worrying about all the extra bills that have built up," he says.
A benefit concert in honour of Kaleb will be held Friday, November 16 at the Rockstar Music Hall on Central Avenue.
