The major reconstruction of Pillette Rd. in east Windsor is entering its final phase this summer.
Work will begin in July, spanning from Seminole St. to South National St., as well as a section of South National to Norman Rd.
The $2.4-million project will include road and sewer rehabilitation, new streetlights and more bike lanes.
Ward 8 councillor Gary Kaschak says it's a case of short-term pain for long-term gain.
"Everybody wants to get their roads fixed, so on and so forth, but the three months you got the dust and the dirt and the inconvenience and the parking somewhere else but that's one of my main goals is to get as many roads done in Windsor and especially ward 8, up to standard and road rehabilitated and I'm really happy to see engineering moving it forward," says Kaschak.
He calls the sewer work long overdue as flooding is still an issue in the neighbourhood.
"We do have a little bit of a water issue still around that corner, so I think the sewer work and road rehabilitation is going to take care of that so I'm looking forward to that," says Kaschak. "I'm glad to see it's moving forward this year and it's going to help the residents and ward eight and it borders onto ward five as well."
He says the cycling lanes also fall in line with the city's active transportation plan.
"It's between Seminole and South National and it sort of finishes off that block of Pillette that's already been done, from Seminole to Tecumseh and I think our active transportation network going to go in there," says Kaschak. "There's going to be some bike lanes hopefully from there."
Construction on the final phase is expected to start in July and wrap up in October.
Last summer, Pillette was revamped from South National to Tecumseh Rd. E.
