Fiat Chrysler could be planning a merger with Volkswagen.
A deal between the two automakers would give Volkwagen a big presence in the U-S, something the German automaker has pursued for years.
It would also give Fiat Chrysler needed cash to compete with other automakers in the future.
Speculation about the possible merger came up when Volkswagen's CEO told reporters in Germany Tuesday he would not rule out talks with FCA.
A deal would mean more changes for Chrysler, which has been through three corporate ownerships and a Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the U-S over the past 20 years.
