EnWin Utilities is reporting a decrease in the number of residential customers behind on their electricity bills at the end of 2016.
But the amount of money owed increased last year compared to the same time in 2015.
That's according to information from the Ontario Energy Board.
EnWin Utilities had 4,953 customers in arrears at the end of 2016 with $1,412,962 owed. That compares to 6,078 residential customers in arrears at the end of 2015 but $1,180,762 owed. A difference of 1,125 fewer customers, and $232,200 more owing in 2016.
It's the same story at ELK Energy and Essex Powerlines, where fewer customers were in arrears on their bills at the end of 2016 but more money was owed to the utilities compared to the previous year.
The OEB reports ELK Energy listed 2,635 residential customers in arrears at the end of last year, owing $913,992. At the end of 2015, there were 3,256 residential accounts in arrears with $889,417 owed.
At Essex Powerlines 1,271 customers were in arrears at the end of 2016 with $418,393 owed. 1,250 residential customers were in arrears at the end of 2016 with $307,953 owed.
The Ontario Energy Board board says any account that is 30 or more days past the 16-day minimum payment period is considered to be in arrears.
