Federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau has officially stepped down.
Morneau made the announcement Monday during a rare evening press conference.
The move comes as the WE charity scandal continues to unfold before the House of Commons finance committee in Ottawa.
During a July 22 committee appearance, Morneau stated he had paid the charity back $41,366 in expenses covering two trips his family took in 2017 and that his wife had made $100,000 in donations to the organization in recent years.
Just last week, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had stated he still had "full confidence" in Morneau, despite calls for his resignation.
There's no word yet who Morneau's replacement might be.
