Safety and highway capability to be tested at the Chelsea Proving Grounds
FCA U.S has invested more money into self-driving vehicles.
The automaker announced it has invested $30-million into the new testing facility at Chelsea Proving Grounds in southeast Michigan.
The 6,500 sq. ft. centre begins testing this month and features a dedicated autonomous highway-speed track, a safety-feature evaluation area and high-tech command centre.
"Our ability to test for autonomous and advanced safety technologies enables FCA to offer our customers the features they want across our brand portfolio," says Chief Executive Officer, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Chief Operating Officer, NAFTA region Mike Manley.
Chelsea Proving Grounds opened in 1954 and employs 900 people.
