A lightning strike may get the blame for a fire at an ethanol plant in Chatham.
Crews responded to Greenfield Global on Bloomfield Road just after midnight, worked into the early morning hours to bring it under control, and it was extinguished just before 8 a.m.
In addition to Chatham-Kent Fire, St. Clair Township Fire Service provided additional support and specialized equipment to help with the response.
Officials say a bolt of lightning may have sparked the blaze, but the exact cause remains under investigation.
No injuries are reported and there are no indications of air quality issues.
The municipality says ethanol is a clean-burning fuel that produces relatively low levels of smoke and airborne particles when burned.
Bloomfield Road remains closed between Riverview Drive and the railway tracks while cleanup continues.
