Essex Town Council may be bringing politics to the people.
Ward 4 Councillor Sherry Bondy brought the motion to council.
Bondy wants to hold meetings outside of town hall during budget talks.
She says the idea would be to hold at least one meeting in each ward in the future, but would start with Harrow.
Bondy says some residents simply have too far to travel if they want to engage council during budget talks.
"If we can have scattered budget meetings in different wards of our municipality we can engage different residents. For a resident to come, for example, from Harrow or Colchester all the way to Essex, you're talking an hour in the car, half an hour here, half an hour back home."
She says the cost would be minimal with town run facilities in three of the four wards.
"We have two facilities, we have the Harrow Arena, and we have the McGregor Community Centre. There isn't quite a facility in Colchester yet, so out of our four wards it would be in three of the wards to start. I'm hoping we could have a meeting in each location each season."
If the town notifies residents of the meetings, Bondy says they will come.
"From experience, meetings in Harrow are posted on Facebook, they're very well attended. It would be fabulous if we could have a couple meetings in Harrow and then Harrow residents can come out and actually see council in action."
Bondy's motion will be discussed at the next council meeting on August 21.
