Essex County OPP have issued a warning after a resident was scammed out of $30,000 earlier this month.
Police say an Essex man was contacted by a suspect posing as a TD Bank Security employee on June 18.
According to police, the suspect claimed fraudulent activity had been detected on the man's account where Google Play cards had been purchased.
Police say the man was then told "investigative funds" would be deposited into his account for purchasing gift cards.
The man was then instructed to withdraw cash from his account to purchase the cards at specific stores throughout Windsor-Essex, according to police.
Investigators say the man was told to say the cards were for family and friends if questioned by cashiers.
Police say at least on store employee refused to sell the gift cards to the victim, but did not contact the authorities.
The OPP are encouraging businesses, retirement homes, long term care facilities, financial institutions, social services and family members to have an open conversation about fraud with seniors.
