Essex Powerlines is working to combat hydro inequality in Amherstburg.
As it stands, part of the town is serviced by Hydro One which has much higher rates.
Essex Power General Manager, Joe Barile, says the company continues a push to acquire more Hydro One shares.
He says Hydro One is a very different company than it was 10 years ago.
"Whether we can come to a business agreement in that respect, I mean they're protecting their interest, their business interest. Hydro One is now a partially privately owned company. So they have both private and public interest to protect and we'll approach it as nay commercial transaction."
Barile says the ultimate goal is a lower hydro bill for Amherstburg residents.
"We're looking. We're certainly interested at all times in purchasing Hydro One assets in the Town of Amherstburg. We're constantly engaging Hydro One in terms of opportunities that we see at the end of the day that will benefit the consumer."
Of the 71 power companies across Ontario, Essex Power ranks 16th for hydro rates...Hydro One sits at 66th.
