Essex MPP Taras Natyshak has submitted a petition at Queen's Park calling for permanent funding for a program that helps people with developmental disabilities.
Independent Facilitation supports young adults with developmental disabilities pursue work, school, live independently, enjoy hobbies and participant in their community.
More than 1,300 people in Ontario rely on the program, but the Ontario's PC have cut $3.2-million in funding.
Karen and Rick Balind of Essex, launched a petition last week and it has already collected more than 300 signatures.
Natyshak says it is a worthwhile program that should not be cut.
"So that all Ontarians with developmental disabilities and their loved ones can access this important service without financial or geographical barriers and I whole heartedly support and endorse this petition."
He says the petition wants funding maintained.
"We the undersigned petition in the legislative assembly of Ontario to call on the government to provide permanent funding for independent facilitation services and support to be offered province wide."
The Balind's 31-year-old son has developmental disabilities, holds down several jobs and lives with his parents.
The family says without programs like Independent Facilitation, he won't be able to be independent one day.
