The Town of Essex is hosting two public meetings later this month.
Councillor Sherry Bondy says the town wants to hear from the public to see if they're in favour of voting for a deputy mayor at large as well as change the ward boundaries or keep the status quo, where council picks the deputy mayor.
She says the town has hired a consultant to look into the issue and the consultant has already met with council but now wants to hear from the public.
Bondy says she residents want to see changes while other don't.
"I've personally heard from both sides of the camp, some saying we want to keep the election of the deputy mayor status quo and some saying we really think it should be elected with a democratic process, the deputy mayor elected at large," says Bondy.
Bondy says a decision has to be made by the end of the year.
The first public meeting is set for March 29th at 6pm at the Essex Centre Sports Complex.
The second meeting will take place on March 30th also at 6pm at the Camoes Portuguese Club in Harrow.
