An Essex golfer is expecting some low scores for the Windsor Championship next week.
David Byrne, assistant pro at Beach Grove, was awarded a sponsor exemption to compete in the tournament at Ambassador Golf.
"Everyone asks me what do they think and everyone shakes their head and they say that I'm wrong but I promise you that I'm right. I would be shocked if -23 or -24 did not win," says Byrne.
He is happy to be competing again.
"I would love to be playing full-time where I wouldn't have to ask for a sponsorship exemption but that was the goal to get into this and start preparing for it," he says. "So I was really looking forward to it, I miss playing competitive golf and playing on tour and it is great that we can have an event like this in Windsor."
NHL referee Garret Rank, Thomas DeMarco, Matt Hill, Kyle Mueller and Christian Dimarco all received sponsor exemptions.
The Windsor Championship is the fifth stop on the McKenzie Tour which will take place July 5th to the 8th.
