The Essex Fire Department has a few tips on staying safe when it comes to carbon monoxide.
Chief Rick Arnel says the number one tip is to make sure you have a working carbon monoxide detector in your home.
"There are several ways to tell if you've been exposed," says Arnel. "You will get headaches, you are not feeling well, upset stomach, those kinds of systems will come through and that is a tell tale sign of CO. Call 9-1-1, we will come right away and help you out and EMS will be there as well." we
"Carbon monoxide is called the silent killer because you can't see it or smell it and it prevents oxygen from circulating in the body" says Arnel.
Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend with the clocks going back one hour before bedtime Saturday night.
Arnel says it's also a good time to change the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
