Essex County tops the region in Civic holiday traffic tickets

Drivers in Essex County saw the most tickets handed out them following a Civic holiday long weekend traffic campaign.

The Ontario Provincial Police held a traffic campaign from July 31 to August 3 across the West Region.

Across the 13 regions, Essex led in four of the five ticket categories.

A total of 856 speeding tickets were handed out, with 183 of those tickets in the county, with the next highest region being Wellington with 90 speeding tickets.

There were 36 seatbelt charges laid locally, also the most in the West Region.

Officers also laid five distracted driving charges, the most in the West Region.

Out of the 45 impaired driving charges, eight were in Essex County, also the most in the West Region.

Three charges were laid locally for failing to move over for emergency vehicles, the second most in the West Region.

Across all regions, OPP laid a total of 1,815 charges following 2,107 traffic stops.
