The Essex County Medical Society has received the prestigious Routley Challenge Award.
The award is given to the medical society that most adequately fulfills the objectives of service to its members, community, and the medical profession. The society was presented the award at the Ontario Medical Association awards in Toronto earlier this month.
ECMS President Dr. Amit Bagga says the award shows how well the regions doctors work together to improve the overall health of the community.
"The MD's within the Essex County Medical Society and it is a retaliate robust membership of almost 500 MD's. They are involved in a lot of great work," says Bagga. "There is the clinical care that they are providing, they are involved in various levels of research, many are teaching at the local Windsor campus."
Bagga says there has been an increase in collaboration between the regions medical professions in recent years.
"There has been an increase in collaboration between the Windsor campus medical school, Windsor Regional Hospital and the various diversity of outpatient clinics," says Bagga. "It helps attract people who are interested in that potential for diversity including teaching balanced with a spectrum of clinical care that one can do here in Windsor."
Bagga adds the award has humbled the society's members.
