Essex County Council is backing a resolution by the Town of LaSalle to ban advertising for vaping products.
The town hopes there is strength in numbers and the idea is being sent to all 444 municipalities in Ontario to send a strong message to the Ministry of Health.
The goal is to treat vaping the same as tobacco.
Essex County Council voted Wednesday night unanimously to support the idea.
LaSalle's Deputy Mayor Crystal Meloche says there needs to be a level playing field between these products and tobacco.
"Currently, you can advertise vaping products at convenient stores, gas stations, you name it," says Meloche. "There is advertisement everywhere for our youth to see and as a municipality it is very hard to be able to pass the no advertising because of other rules and regulations that are above us."
Meloche says a lot of people are concerned about this.
"We have heard it from our residents, we have even heard it from students that this has become a major issue in not only our high school but unfortunately in our elementary schools," says Meloche.
Last month, the Greater Essex County District School Board also supported the idea of banning advertising for e-cigarettes and voted to send a letter to the federal and provincial governments asking for a change in legislation.
