Essex councillor Randy Voakes wants to see a historical caboose brought to the forefront in Essex.
Currently, the little red caboose is parked at the Historic Essex Railway Station on Station St. and Cameron Ave.
Voakes brought a motion to council what would see the caboose moved to Main St.
The idea would be to use it as a tourist information centre similar to the Big Tomato in Leamington. He tells AM800 News the artifact could be a lot more useful in a more central location.
"It's part of our history but it's really in a piece of real estate that it doesn't get as much acknowledgment as it could," says Voakes. "So, the intent is to talk to council about moving that little caboose and bringing it up on the Main St.."
Voakes doesn't see the project breaking the bank, but says that would be something that needs to be discussed at council.
"If there's an inherited cost to moving it, whether we have to fund raise or somebody would would be willing to help us with the movement of it, I think once the word gets out," says Voakes. "We would make sure, if council endorses doing it that we'll get it moved somehow."
The proposal will be brought forward at the next council meeting.
