An Essex councillor is speaking out after the town terminated its CAO.
"I'm upset, you bet I am," says Randy Voakes. "A consideration if we just followed her lead would have put Essex back on the map again."
He says he can't get into all the details since it's a personnel matter but he's disappointed with the town's decision to got rid of Tracey Pillon-Abbs.
Voakes calls the decision an ill-fated mistake by council and felt Pillon-Abbs was doing a great job for the municipality
"I think we had a lady there in terms of her abilities as a CAO, given the opportunity to culture herself into the job which she wasn't. She actually wasn't even employed for a year yet."
Voakes says he's not sure why the town got rid of her.
"For unknown reasons the council in the Town of Essex decided to let her go and I don't agree with it and that's my opinion. I know she was doing a great job for us and I'll leave it at that."
Pillon-Abbs held the position for less than a year. She took over the job as CAO on July 4th, replacing Russ Phillips who returned home to Manitoba.
Donna Hunter, the town's current director of corporate services, has been named interim CAO.
