Attracting new development in Harrow is on the agenda tonight at Essex town council.
For the past year, development fees have been cut in half but the uptake hasn't been what council was hoping for.
Deputy Mayor Richard Meloche is recommending extending the program for another year. "This would be a bit of an incentive for people to, if you're trying to pick a spot to develop, perhaps you would look into Harrow and build there, right now, while development charges are at 50-percent of what they should be."
Meloche says residential development is necessary to protect rural schools.
He points to the closure of Harrow high school as an example of what can happen if development stalls.
Town Council will discuss the issue at a special meeting tonight at 5pm.
