The Essex 73's are sticking around to play another day.
With the Lakeshore Canadiens leading the Provincial Junior Hockey League Stobbs Division Final three games to none, Essex rallied Tuesday night scoring three unanswered goals in the third period on the way to a 4-1 final.
Josh Pope-Ferguson led the way for the 73's netting a goal while adding two assists.
Essex head coach Gil Langlois says his team came through when it needed to.
"We were in a situation where there was no tomorrow. We challenged the guys to make sure that when the game was over that they could look at themselves in the mirror and say they gave it everything they had. That's all you can ask of your team. We challenged them to be that way and they played that way and they were rewarded for their hard work."
Langlois says defence and goaltending played a big part in the win as well.
"As a whole, our defensive core did a really good job of limiting their chances. We played more in our zone than I wanted to, but they did a really nice job of keeping pucks to the outside and battling down low and, of course, we had super goaltending from Connor. So it really was a team effort."
Connor Meyerink had a solid night in net for the 73's making 23 saves in front of the crowd at the Atlas Tube Centre in Lakeshore.
The Canadiens still hold on to a 3-1 series lead with game five set to go in Essex Friday night.
Puck drops at 7 p.m.
