A new clock tower in the Via Italia neighbourhood has got the go ahead from city council.
The 33 ft tall limestone structure will be located at the Erie St. and Parent Ave. roundabout.
The Erie Street BIA is fully funding the project.
Teresa Silvestri is with the BIA and says the $100,000 cost has been significantly reduced thanks to an anonymous sponsor who is paying for the majority of the materials.
Silvestri says the clock will be dedicated to long time family doctor and Italian community advocate Dr. Lazarus Jovanovic.
"I'm very grateful," says Silvestri. "We've worked hard for this memorial clock project and made us very very happy. We should have it done by September for the bicycle races (We've got a lot of people behind us. We have volunteers who are going to do a lot of work, giving us the material for the clock itself and we have one sponsor who has been very very generous so we're on our way."
The Erie Street BIA hopes to have the clock tower ready for this year's Tour di Via Italia bicycle races on September 3.
