Adventure races gaining popularity in WindsorEssex.
The Essex Region Conservation Authority is offering adventure race seminars for those interested in joining the sport.
An adventure race is a eight hour multi-sport race that incorporates trekking, cycling, paddling and other physical activities.
The seminars allows potential racers to ask questions about the sport and gain advice from experts. ERCA will be holding their own adventure race called SCAR this June.
Events planner for ERCA Alex Denonville says SCAR is an opportunity for community members to experience the regions vast ecosystem. He says SCAR allows the community to experience nature in a fun, engaging way.
'We really designed SCAR 'the South Coast Adventure Race' as a good race for people who have not done an adventure race before so we pitch it as it is great for beginners, but it is also a challenge even for a long time adventure racer," says Denonville.
Denonville says it is important to be well equipped for an adventure race.
"You will be out on the course for eight hours. You have to be eating and drinking along the way," says Denonville. "We do have water stops. There is mandatory equipment you have to bring so safety equipment, always wearing your helmet on a bike, bringing a water bottle you can fill up at certain stations throughout the race."
The price to participate in the SCAR race is $120. All proceeds from the race will go to local ERCA conservation projects and to the Rotary Club of Windsor-St. Clair.
