The Essex Region Conservation Authority is recognizing several Windsor-Essex residents for all they've done to better our environment.
The Authority took some time at its annual general meeting last night to hand out its Conservation Awards for 2016.
Tom Henderson received an award for more than 25 years of volunteering to improve the Little River and Detroit River watersheds.
He says he never would have accomplished anything without the help of the community.
"You can stand at a street corner and shout until your heart is content, but if there's no one listening you just sound like a crazy man," says Henderson. "But fortunately, all the groups, individuals I've worked with were very cooperative and we all worked together and it is definitely a team effort when it comes to the environment."
Robert and Andrew Pula received an award for their role in bringing adventure racing to the area.
Robert says interest continues to grow after the first South Coast Adventure Race in 2014.
"People were intrigued. They wanted to know what it was," he says. "We were able to capture some of the really cool spots of Essex County and we put together a long adventure race and that kind of set the bar pretty high from the get go and we just brought a lot of experience from our pervious adventure races that we've done and it turned out really, really well."
Eleven awards in all were handed out in a number of areas including education, farming, environmental restoration and preserving history.
