As the temperature climbs, Enwin Utilities is keeping an eye on power consumption but no problems are anticipated. Corporate Communications Manager Barbara Pierce-Marshall says consumption was well within limits yesterday, the hottest day of the year so far. "We were comparably high in our peak which means that nothing extraordinary really was going on, well within the normal June peak values for the past several years. Actually it was far below our historic peak."
Pierce-Marshall says consumers are conserving more and using less. She adds there are several things customers can do to help lower energy costs while the A/C is working overtime. "My favourite one in the summer is to lower the temperature on your hot water heater. Let's face it, if we're taking a shower we don't want it to be hot. And then just little things like using LED lights instead of incandescent ones."
Pierce-Marshall also recommends keeping major appliances turned off during peak hours.
