The CEO of ENWIN Utilities says crews are working to restore power following a powerful storm that swept across the region.
Gary Rossi told AM800’s Mornings with Mike and Meg that the biggest concentration of power outages is in East Windsor, the Pillette and Riverside neighbourhood along with some smaller outages on the southwest side of Windsor.
Around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Windsor was hit with a storm that included a suspected tornado in the Riverside and Forest Glade area in the east end, knocking down trees, damaging power lines, and even removing the roof off a home along Riverside Drive near Buckingham.
Rossi told AM800’s Mornings with Mike and Meg that for the most part, they are aware of where the outages are.
“We know when the transformers are out, and that comes back to our scanner system,” he says. “But it could be an on-off that just took out your own service line. Those are the ones that are less easy to see and get muddled into the rest.
A team from the Northern Tornadoes Project will be in Windsor and Essex County Friday investigating two suspected tornadoes touching down during Thursday’s storm.
Rossi says they do encourage people to call in to report downed wires.
“We encourage them to call in and let us know the status. Obviously, we focus on the hardest-hit areas as quickly as possible and try to get as many customers up as fast as we can,” he says.
Essex-Windsor E-M-S says paramedics treated a few minor injuries as a direct result of the severe storm.
