Enwin Utilities has sold its building on Ouellette Ave.
The utility has announced the property at 787 Ouellette Ave and Elliott has been sold to Tessonics Inc.
Enwin put the 40,000 sq. ft. building up for sale back in November 2018 in hopes of moving its current staff to its Rhodes Dr. building.
"With fewer than 100 employees now at the Ouellette Ave office building, large parts of the building are underutilized and the costs of maintaining unneeded office space simply could not be justified over the long term," says Enwin CEO Helga Reidel.
Tessonics, a locally based international technology company focused on industrial ultrasound and research and development, is currently located one block north on Ouellette and Wyandotte.
Tessonics Chief Operating Officer Joe Udzbinac says the company was looking for a new larger building which was still close to the border.
The Enwin building is about three times the size of its current location.
Udzbinac says location was key.
"We like to be close to the US border and to the university because we do a lot of work with the university so we have students coming back and forth and we wanted to be close to a bus line," he says. "Proximity to the Detroit Airport, proximity to our customers in the U.S which is probably 95% of our North American market is in the U.S."
He says a larger building means it will be able to hire more people.
"We do plan on expanding and I think we will get additional employees coming down here, we just don't have the room here."
Tessonics currently employs 35 people and Udzbinac expects with the larger building, it will be able to hire 10 more people.
The move should take place about a year.
