The Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association and the province will return to the bargaining table next week.
More than 6,100 teachers and support staff from both the catholic and public boards walked the picket line at 20 different locations in Windsor-Essex to back contract demands Friday.
"Today's historic strike was an incredible display of the passion and dedication of teachers and education workers across Ontario," says association President Liz Stuart. "Our goal is to negotiate a deal at the bargaining table and it is clear that our efforts are being effective in forcing the government to work with our association toward a fair agreement."
A mediator has called both parties to the table Monday.
"We have been assured that the discussions will continue to be meaningful," added Stuart. "As a result, OECTA will be suspending the rotating strikes planned for next week [Friday]."
Ontario's high school, elementary, Catholic and French teachers have been without a contract since August 31, 2019.
