Eight organizations have shared in $74,000 thanks to the Windsor-Essex Community Foundation.
The foundation handed out the cheques Monday morning at the Capitol Theatre as part of the Community Fund for "Canada's 150th Grant Programs."
The fund provides small grants across Canada to support community initiatives.
The Windsor Symphony Society, the University of Windsor, the Royal Canadian Naval Association and the Harrow and Colchester South Chamber of Commerce were some of the organizations receiving funding.
The Essex County Field Naturalists Club received $15,000 to restore the old lands at Sturgeon Creek, near Point Pelee National Park and club President Paul Pratt says it is a great opportunity to restore the lands to its natural conditions.
"One of the significant things about Point Pelee being a fantastic area is that it is kinda isolated from other natural areas in the county, by residential development and agriculture and the Sturgeon Creek area is a nice natural area just outside of Point Pelee" he says.

Foundation Chair of the Grants Committee Loretta Stoyka says the groups met the criteria to receive the funding.
"It included the native population, youth, armed services and we tried, and it is difficult, but we tried to encompass everyone."
This is the second round of grant funding.
In November 2016, nine organizations shared in $100,000.
