What used to be simple, utilitarian communication boxes in eight LaSalle locations are now art installations.
The town has partnered with the Bell Box Mural Program for the project.
Various artists have been engaged to make the boxes stand out and beautify the neighbourhood.
Melissa Thibert and Sonja Srdanov are painting endangered indigenous flowers on a box on Monty Street just off Malden Road.
Srdanov says they started by taking measurements of the box and sketching the image on a chalkboard.
"We drew it out on chalk, put tissue paper over top, sketched it there, brought the tissue paper here and put carbon underneath and transferred it so it fit perfectly."
Srdanov adds, the natural beauty of the area was the inspiration.
"I'm really in love Ojibway Park and I love everything it stands for in this area and what an amazing place it is. So we focused on the endangered flower species."
Thibert says their work is being appreciated already.
"We've had people stopping by, driving by and telling us how pretty it is. So I think that the neighbours are excited to have something beautiful to look at."
When completed, the flowers will be identified with their names, then the box will be clear-coated to protect it from the elements.
Both artists teach art at Sandwich Secondary School and chose the location because it's so close to the school.
