Ottawa is trying to reunite family members who were separated between Canada and the U.S because of border restrictions.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says some premiers support the ideas, while others are worried about the potential risk of importing the COVID-19 virus into their provinces.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford backs Trudeau saying nothing is more important than family.
Ford believes a balance can be achieved between restricting border crossings and reuniting these families.
"I always want to keep a tight border and more screening at the border, but what was explained to myself and the other premiers, there are approximately 1700 families and reunification is so important to all of us," says Ford.
Ford says he's heard stories of a husband in Canada, while his wife is in the U.S and they need help.
"It is so important that we reunite families," added Ford. "I think it is absolutely critical, so I support what the prime minister is recommending and it is relatively a small group but there is nothing more than families in these situations."
The current non-essential travel ban at the border is set to expire on June 21st.
It could be extended depending on talks between the two countries.
