Now that funding has been announced for a new school in Forest Glade, the process of merging the two feed-in schools begins.
An accommodation review last year determined Eastwood and Parkview public schools should move to a new building.
The province is funding the new school for $13.2-million, announced January 31.
Eastwood Principal Nick Arundine is impressed with how the communities are handling this.
"The whole process was very, very positive through the input of our community partners. They were excited throughout the whole term of the PARC study and so to come up with this kind of announcement is great news for everybody and in particular our students."
Parkview Principal David Simone says the new school will be a great upgrade.
"It's good news for our communities also, I mean just the resources they'll be gaining from a new building. Brand new classrooms, great parking for moms and dads, child care, those are all community needs and it deserves it."
Simone says there are steps in the process of bringing the schools together.
"We have activities where we'll bring the students together and the parents and we'll have an opportunity for the kids to meet each other, do activities together, visit the different schools just so that there's some essence of community building."
Municipal permits will be sought, an architect will be engaged and a contractor hired.
The school could be ready in late 2019 or early 2020.
