A kitchen fire in an east Windsor apartment caused nearly $80,000 in damage and displaced residents for several hours.
Windsor Fire and Rescue's Doug Gooding says the fire was confined to a unit on the third floor of Colony at the Park Sunday after 3pm.
The building is one of several in the complex located at 3936 Wyandotte St. E. near George Ave.
Gooding says the fire was confined to the kitchen.
"The crew was able to get inside and knock the fire down quickly, " says Gooding. "A lot of smoke spread to the rest of the structure on other floors. Right now we're just ventilating, making sure the air qualities good, and checking on the occupants to make sure they're all ok."
Several people with pre-existing medical issues have been taken to hospital as a precaution, according to Gooding.
"There was a couple issues with smoke inhalation, but they've been treated and taken to the hospital," he says. "Nothing serious, they had some pre-existing conditions, just as a precaution."
Gooding says the exact origin of the blaze is still under investigation.
