The Dresden Kings blanked the Canadiens 3-0 in game one of their Provincial Junior Hockey League Stobbs Division semifinal at the Atlas Tube Centre in Lakeshore.
Stobbs Division rookie of the year Brett Brochu made 27 saves to earn the shutout.
Elijah Duquette, Lucas Spence, and Greg Hay scored for the Kings, and defenceman Nolan Ross chipped in with two assists.
The Kings entered the series as the third ranked team, having finished the regular season a single point behind second place Lakeshore.
Game two is Wednesday night in Dresden at 7:30 p.m.
Elsewhere, the Essex 73's beat the Amherstburg Admirals 3-2 in double overtime to open their best-of-seven series.
