It won't be exactly the same during the COVID-19 pandemic, but the Downtown Windsor Farmers Market is back.
The weekly tradition will open bright and early Saturday morning on Pelissier Street near Maiden Lane. Shoppers will now have to enter from the north and south entrances on Pelissier Street.
That's one of a few changes to help keep people safe while they have a good time, according to Manager Steve Green.
"You'll go through a check point. We'll be asking people to sanitize their hands and we'll be giving some market rules around social distancing," he says.
Lines will also become the norm to make sure gatherings stay small and people have proper space.
He says some of the social atmosphere will be gone for now as well.
"Get what you want and keep moving; gone are the day's where we were able to grab a seat at the table and hang out and ... visit," says Green.
Many market regulars tell Green they're just grateful it's opening.
"People are just happy we can get some of the farmers from the county down into the market with their spring produce and some of our regular venders from last year; everyone's just really happy that something is running," he says.
The market opens Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Pelissier Street at Maiden Lane. Shoppers are asked to only enter from Pelissier; Maiden Lane will only be used as an exit.
Barring any more COVID-19 orders, the market will run most Saturdays until Oct. 31.
