The Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association is calling on the public to help it cover the cost of a Freedom Of Information (FOI) request.
The group that represents merchants in the core of the city wants to see why a report was generated about the Pelissier Street Parking Garage.
Council reversed its original position and voted 6-4 to eliminate the retail space in the facility.
DWBIA Chair Larry Horwitz says a GoFundMe page has been set up to help cover the cost of the FOI, which the city has set at nearly $14,000.
"We calculated it, it would basically take someone at about $30/hour six months at their numbers to go through their report and go through all the details that we want to get from the city," he says.
He says taking out the retail space in the parking garage does not make sense.
"In terms of available retail space, rentable commercial space, we're lacking right now and we're going to need more. This is even before the University opens their doors in August and September."
He says what's not lacking is parking spaces.
In the 4-5 days since the GoFundMe page was launched, it has raised close to $3000.
