The chair of Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association is applauding a decision made by Windsor city council.
Larry Horwitz is pleased council approved the road improvements on Ouellette Ave. from Elliott St. to Wyandotte St.
As heard on AM800 News earlier this week, the $5.6 million project will reduce the number of lanes from four to two plus a raised median island, new sidewalks, landscaping and additional on-street parking.
Horwitz feels the project will continue to improve the imagine of the downtown core.
"It's really going to be a great change for downtown.," says Horwitz. "It will look like the downtown has expanded quite a bit, it's a strong commercial area, it will become much stronger."
Horwitz likes that the project includes more street parking.
"We're able to add a number of parking spots, on street parking just all along that corridor area, the entrance to downtown," says Horwitz.
The work is scheduled to begin in this fall and will take two years to complete. The project does not include bike lanes.
