The LaSalle Fire Service is showing off its new home on Normandy St. near Malden Rd.
The open house began Thursday and features fire truck rides, fire extinguisher demonstrations and a drag a fire hose challenge.
Deputy Fire Chief Ed Thiessen says there will also be plenty of information dealing with fire safety and prevention.
"Like auto extrication, air bag deployment, we're going to have a fire fighting boat here, we're going to have hands on demonstrations of fire extinguishers so people can use a fire extinguisher to put out fires," says Thiessen.
The idea of an open house is being reintroduced after being absent for the past couple of years.
"We have done this probably four years ago," says Thiessen. "It's time we do it again. Other fire services, our neighbouring fire services do it every year and it is a great success. We've been focusing on fire alarm and fire detector programs in the past and we just want to get back to an open house this year."
He says the public will also get a chance to ride the fire trucks.
"One of the things were adding this year is fire truck rides and experience from our neighbours, there's line ups for those all the time so it's going to be interesting," says Thiessen. "It's going to be a great opportunity just for the town as a whole to share information and we get to meet people and show off the professionalism of our team here."
The public open house runs Friday from 6pm until 8pm and again on Saturday from 10am until 2pm.
