A group of dogs rescued from Hurricane Harvey are now at the Windsor-Essex County Humane Society.
Eight dogs arrived at the shelter on Monday.
Executive Director Melanie Coulter says there is a wide variety of dogs. "Mostly mixed breeds, the dogs that came to us are mostly large breed dogs, they're fairly mixed breed dogs."
Coulter says it will be a while before the dogs will be up for adoption. "We quarantine them for two weeks and that's just to keep our dogs safe because when they're coming from a different area you want to make sure they're not bringing in anything that could be contagious to our dogs. They are going to get a thorough medical assessment as well.
Coulter says at least one of the dogs has heart-worm, which is fairly common in the Texas region.
She says they've already had a number of people express interest in adopting the dogs once they clear their medical check.
