Fourth seed Dominic Thiem and fifth seed Alexander Zverev also reached the quarters, as did No. 7 Kei Nishikori and No. 10 Karen Khachanov.
Nishikori won his fifth set, 7-5 in a match that was halted by darkness on Sunday.
The men's quarterfinal action has second seed Rafael Nadal versus Nishikori and No. 3 Roger Federer against Stan Wawrinka .
