The penalties for using your cell phone while driving in Ontario have jumped.
As of January 1, 2019, there is a mandatory three-day driver's license suspension on the first conviction for distracted driving which includes texting and driving.
The minimum fine has also increased to $615 if settled out of court, compared to the previous $490.
The maximum fine is $1,000.
The first offence will also carry with it three demerit points.
