A blitz targetting distracted drivers continues in Essex County.
Over two-days in Leamington, Ontario Provincial Police continued the enforcement campaign as part of Operation Stop Texting and Travel Safely (STATS.)
Officers were in the area of Erie St. and Oak St. on October 13th and 14th and spotted 26 drivers using a cell phone while behind the wheel.
Essex County OPP members have processed over 270 violations since the campaign began on September 17th.
The penalty for distracted driving will increase on January 1st to a fine of up to $1,000, three demerit points and a three-day driver's licence suspension.
