A Police Act hearing in Chatham-Kent has concluded with the retirement of a sergeant found guilty of misconduct.
Last year, Sergeant Robert Mugridge was found guilty of 50 counts of misconduct.
The service was seeking the dismissal of the 52-year-old sergeant and his retirement results in the loss of jurisdiction for the disciplinary proceeding under the Police Services Act.
If any police service in Ontario were to hire him in the next five years, that service would be obliged to continue the prosecution.
Mugridge has pleaded guilty in criminal court to fraud over $5,000 and will be sentenced this month.
He had been suspended with pay since 2014.
