Spitfire goalie Michael DiPietro has been honoured for his strong performance in leading Windsor to victory at the Memorial Cup.
After back stopping the Spits to a 4-3 win over Erie in the championship game, DiPietro was named the winner of the Hap Emms Memorial Trophy as the tournament's most outstanding goaltender. The 17-year-old Amherstburg native went 4-0 with a 2.00 GAA and a .932 save percentage.
DiPietro was also named to the Memorial Cup all-star team along with Spitfire defenceman Mikhail Sergachev and Windsor forward Gabriel Vilardi.
Defenseman Darren Raddysh along with forwards Alex DeBrincat and Taylor Raddysh, all of the Erie Otters, were also named to the all-star team.
Otters captain Dylan Strome received the Stafford Smythe Memorial Trophy as Mastercard Memorial Cup MVP. Strome led the tournament in goal-scoring with seven over his four contests, one shy of a tournament record. He finished tied with teammate Taylor Raddysh for the tournament lead in points with 11.
