The mayor of Windsor will be seeking a fourth term in office.
During a news conference Thursday, Drew Dilkens was asked by members of the media if he would be seeking re-election, and he confirmed he will be filing his nomination papers on Friday.
The deadline to file is Friday, August 21, at 2 p.m.
Dilkens was first elected mayor in 2014. Prior to that, he served two terms on city council.
He says he’s excited and optimistic about the city’s future.
“We’ve got so many exciting things happening, things that you’ve seen play out of the course of the last year but so much more in the pipeline. I look forward to knocking on doors and having great conversations with residents,” he says.
As of Thursday, nine people had already filed their nomination papers to run for mayor of Windsor, including long-time Ward 1 Councillor Fred Francis.
The other candidates are Benjamin Danyluk, Aaron Day, Dylon Graves, Tara Grayer, Nick Kolasky, Kat Pasquach, Patrick Sutherland, and Louis Vaupotic.
The municipal election is set to take place October 26.
