It's not how you got the job done, it's about the results.
That's the theme of "DIFFablitiy" Awareness Day, according to Organizer Peter Best. The event set-up shop at Devonshire Mall Saturday to showcase tools the disabled use to live, work, and play.
The founder of Accessibility Resource Sharing says, at the end of the day, we're all the same.
"I might have large print, someone might read braille, someone may listen to it, another person may say 'well, I don't speak that language so I'm going to read it in French or I'm not good with words so I'll look at the picture version.'" he says. "In the end we all read the same book."
Best tells AM800 News people who stopped in to chat with several organizations gathered in the courtyard were pleasantly surprised.
"A person might have a different way of doing things, but they can be just as effective doing things with their various modes of getting the task done," says Best. "It's not that they're strange or different, they're just doing things that are comfortable for them so they can participate, contribute to the community, as well as compete in our community."
The event was emceed by Windsor-Tecumseh MP Cheryl Hardcastle.
More than 15 local organizations contributed and several films from the ReelAbilities Film Festival in Toronto were screened throughout the day.
