Amherstburg Mayor Aldo DiCarlo is the new vice-chair of the Windsor Police Services Board.
DiCarlo was nominated on Thursday by board member Michael Ray.
He takes over for city councillor Joanne Gignac who was replaced on the board by fellow councillor Rino Bortolin.
DiCarlo is serving on the board as a representative for the town after Windsor took over policing in Amherstburg on January 1, 2019.
DiCarlo says he's humbled and very grateful to be nominated as vice-chair.
"You know coming in, I know there was a lot of unknowns in what Amherstburg's role would be in the transition. I can't help but bring up the under lining message there, which is I think everyone is committed to making this work," he says.
DiCarlo use to sit on the Amherstburg Police Board says there are differences between the two organizations.
"Legislation-wise, we all follow the same thing. Statistics-wise, well that's been quite an eye opener," he says. "Things are definitely different in Windsor but I think pretty much as everybody knows I work in Windsor, so the safety of Windsor is just as important to me as the safety of Amherstburg."
DiCarlo says all outstanding issues including severance from the disbanded Amherstburg Police Service have been taken care of.
"That process has been finalized up to about a week or so ago there," he says. "There was some outstanding issues but they are done, so as far as the process goes, everything is going well. Feedback from a lot of the residents has been very positive."
