Jerry Dias will be in Windsor Tuesday.
The national head of Unifor will first meet with General Motors officials in Detroit
"Unifor presented General Motors with solid options to maintain production in Oshawa last month," said Dias. "Our position is clear that we expect GM to allocate product and continue plant operations past 2019."
On December 20th, 2018, Dias and the leaders of the Oshawa local met with a senior leadership team also in Detroit.
He says they laid out several options to allow GM to re-patriate vehicle production from Mexico to Canada.
The company listened to the proposal, did not immediately reject what was put on the table and promised a response January 7, 2019.
It was announced in November 2018 that General Motors will close its production plant in Oshawa along with four facilities in the U.S. as part of a global reorganization that will see the company focus on electric and autonomous vehicle programs.
Following the meeting in Detroit, Dias will speak to the media at the Unifor Hall on Turner Rd. in Windsor — AM800 News will carry the news conference live at 4pm.
