Crime is down in Windsor.
Even though police announced Windsor's first homicide of 2016 Friday morning, a report shows a decrease in crime in the community.
There were 1,164 total Criminal Code violations in September.
That number is 21% lower than last year and 5% lower than the previous month.
Deputy Chief Vince Power says we have a safer community because of the public's help.
"What it really means is that the public is working with the police. I mean we have some excellent initiatives going on, our officers are working hard, but certainly we wouldn't be getting the results we are getting without cooperation from the public. We need public support and I think we're getting that."
Specific crime statistics that did increase this year compared to 2015 were Robberies and Attempted Robberies, Break and Enters, and Offensive Weapons offences.
