Debate over the Mega Hospital Challenge app continues.
Data gathered since the app's launch shows 60% of those who took part will have to travel further to the proposed County Rd. 42 site compared to existing hospital locations within the city.
The app's designers recently held a talk to discuss the findings.
Sarah Roddy is a business analyst from LaSalle and wanted to learn a bit more about the app's design.
Something co-designer Doug Sartori is all for, he says Border City Data created the app to stir-up people for and against the new location.
Roddy tells AM800 more than 2,500 responses collected some interesting numbers, but only using that data to create an opinion could skew the big picture.
"I mean, with data any time that can happen. You have to be really careful about that. Certain factors can affect the perception that you get from the results," she says.
Sartori says real-time traffic data wasn't available to calculate times, but the app uses an approximation that isn't far off.
Roddy says it's still a good idea to keep variables in mind when looking at results, little things can add up to make a big difference to the overall picture.
"Length of time, not just kilometers to the location. For instance, I drive in from LaSalle and I get to work quicker than some of my co-workers who live in Windsor because they get eight stop lights and I only get three and sometimes they're all green," added Roddy.
She says anyone looking to use the app in opposition to the regional hospital's location, should ask themselves where users are calculating their trip from.
"More insight for those who might be against it because they'll see we're giving more access to people from out in the county and it's in a location where you're not going to have as much traffic as you did when it was downtown. That's another factor to consider."
More than 400,000 people in Essex County will be served by the new regional acute care centre, around half of which reside in Windsor.
The estimated $2-billion price tag will be shared between the province, the city and the county.
